Tender Mercies

Hello out there...

It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Florida, and as I sit in a quiet house with the hubs, and he is doing the dishes for us,   I am thinking about the phrase "tender mercies."   To me, these are the moments in life when you can just catch a break, catch a breath, a bit of good luck- where God is working for you and you can just EXHALE.

Life can sure be busy and chaotic and stressful day to day.  But there is almost always SOMETHING good happening in your life - a tender mercy- to give you some strength to keep going.  Maybe it's a little refund check that shows up at just the right time, or an unexpected hug and "I love you, Mom" from your son/daughter, or a chivalrous moment from your spouse...a pat on the back from your boss... a sermon that resonates and lifts your spirits in church...  whatever it is- savor the tender mercies in your life, feed off of them.

I think these moments are very powerful if you pay attention to them and give them the weight they deserve.

Winning!

Hello Folks,

I hope everyone had wonderful holidays and are excited for the new year!  I know I am!

I wanted to talk for moment about Online Games...  Ay, those suckers are addictive!   I thought I had kicked the habit when I started my Younique business, and I did, for a time.  But over the holidays I had a little bit of extra time on my hands and those little buggers sucked me right back in!   I'm not a Candy Crusher, but I was playing a variety of other games with vigor!  And I realized - this is not good for SO many reasons.  I was losing sleep, losing valuable time, gaining weight, etc... So I deleted every stinkin' game from my Facebook profile.  All gone! But it made me think... why do you suppose they are so addicting?  And I think - at least for me- I know why.

We want to be winners.

That's it.  We crave the high of winning.  It feels great, right?  To conquer a level, get a bonus, etc... Everyone likes to gamble and win.  But here's the thing... what are you really winning?  Hooray, I got to level 235 of Papa Pear Saga!  And... ?  Hmm.

I decided to delete all of my games because I realize that there are many other more productive, even lucrative ways to WIN.  I choose to get my high by sharing my awesome business, interacting with people, building my skills, and making money and a better life for myself and my family.  So, instead of spending time chasing levels on silly games, I am chasing levels of achievement in my business/career, getting more exercise, losing weight, accomplishing things that enrich my life.

WINNING!

SLEEP DEPRIVATION

Is anyone else feeling a little sleep-deprived lately??

In the whirling dervish of life, how do you find time to get in 8 hours of restful sleep?  I can't remember the last time I did.  I suspect many of my readers feel the same.

Is it because we are just WAYYY overstimulated?  Think about it... we now have access to hundreds of tv channels, plus Hulu, Netflix, etc...  igadgets aplenty, we can track how we exercise, eat, sleep, drink, shop, poop...(well, maybe not, but it's coming lol.)

We have social networking, WORK, kids, extra-curricular activiities of said kids, birth-WEEKs instead of birthdays to plan for- don't even get me started on the major production birthdays have become-  where in this chaotic existence is there time for rest?   It seems like the more data and stimulation  we have access to, the more we need, and that supercedes the desire for rest.

I know I am on to something here, because I don't know if you've noticed, but there are actually whole stores devoted to CPAP machines to help people get better sleep.  There are the very popular sleep number beds as well.  There are cooling pillows, memory foam mattresses, sleep sounds machines.   Sleep assistance is becoming an actual industry that goes way beyond earplugs and warm milk.

Here's my suggestion.  Put away the laptop, PS4, LED flatscreen with supersonic soundbar, tablets, and smartphones. Let the kids be unproductive and go to bed early a few nights a week-  I swear they will still be well-rounded, well-socialized little geniuses.   End your work at the time you stop getting paid for it - ie: 5pm or thereabouts, and....

just STOP, drop, and snooze.

I think we'd all feel alot better.

Pour Some Glitter On Me...

I am such a girly girl.  I just didn't want to admit it for many many years.  I was the one who never wore makeup, always wore solid colors, hung with the boys, and prided myself on thinking like a man.

Until...

Younique.

What the H-E-double toothpicks happened!?!!

Ladies, here's the fabulous truth... MAKEUP is a gateway drug.

It started with putting on a little mascara because I had to represent my product.  Then I was BLENDING eye pigments, using brushes and sponges and PRIMER, for gosh sakes!  Don't even get me started about lip gloss.

Since I was wearing the makeup, I guess I HAD to change my wardrobe.  So my solid sensibles gave way to printed chiffon, skirts, and the first dress I have owned in over 15 years.

Then, since I had a new face and new clothes, I REALLLY needed to ACCESSORIZE.  Of course! Nevermind that previously I may have owned 3 pieces of jewelry that I actually wore.  Now I have a full collection of costume jewelry - rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants... I am just a-clinking and a-twinking all over town now!

So, if you are keeping up with the progression:

1. Makeup (ie; gateway drug)
2. Girly clothes
3. Accessories

So guess what I did today- and this takes the cake:

That's right, GLITTERY NAIL POLISH!

I believe that completes my transition from "think like a man" to "act like a lady!"

And before you say that 50 year olds shouldn't wear shimmery eye shadow or glitter nail polish, save your breath!  Younique, you have created a GIRLY-MONSTER and I cannot be stopped!

Time for my pink champagne and candlelit bubble bath...

XO
